Pills are generally prepared by grinding powdered dry herbs
/ animal products / Bhasma of metals and minerals with appropriate
liquids or by reducing a decoction of herbs to a thick consistency
and then adding some powdered drugs. When the material attained
consistency for rolling pills, the mass is put into the extruder
and then to the cutter for specified size and shape. Dried in
shade. This pharmaceutical form is intended to be swallowed
whole, by chewing or by dissolving in prescribed vehicles like
honey, milk, etc. The aqueous soluble fractions of the ingredients,
can be incorporated in a pill by macerating into variable degrees
with the powdered drugs. Size reduction by repeated grinding/reducing
to a decoction will enhance the absorption of medicines by the
human body. Presence of vehicles will support the same.
Products for external and ophthalmic use are also incorporated
in this form.
