Medicated
ghee is generally administered internally. This form is an emulsion
containing both fat and water soluble portion of the ingredients.
Ghee has a special quality that it can imbibe the properties of
ingredients, without loosing its natural properties. This process
ensures the absorption of the aqueous and fat soluble fraction
of ingredients.
Basic
Components.
Aqueous Medium: Water/Expressed Juice/Decoction
Lipid Medium: Cow Ghee
Solid medium: Paste of drugs/Pulp
According to certain formulations addition of Milk, Butter milk,
Curd, Whey, Rice wash etc. is advised.
Quality Control Criteria: Loss on drying at 110o
C, Volatile content, Refractive Index, Ash value, Acid value,
Saponification value, lodine value, Total fat.
Organoleptic
features: Generally solidify when cooled. Colour, odour and taste
of the drugs used.
